Hard and long training pays off for three man

Update  >>>
Anti Terror Combat is now called BlackCombat!

Here at Ichinen Bridport martial arts school we train the radical self defence system Anti Terror Combat. The roots of this training goes back to 1992 when Grandmaster Horst D. Lindenau 6th Dan came to england to expand the style of Anti-Terrorkampf (German for Anti Terror Combat)

Master Horst was a 2nd Dan than and soon built up a strong bridge head for this combat style. Years later he left the German based ATK organisation and training was reformed and now named Anti Terror Combat. A more approachable description for the international community.

This month another three men stepped up the ladder in the ranks and received their black belt 1. Dan certificates from Grandmaster Horst D. Lindenau in Bridport/UK.

Big congratulations from all of us at Ichinen!

Active students at Bridport martial arts school

It was a delight to watch little Noah (6) 6th Kyu Jiu-Jitsu performing his bamboo stick kata. He copied it himself somewhere online and studied it at home to give us a show of his skills.

Noah moved the stick faster than the camera can catch it!

This months martial artist of the month is Yusef el Gabry (15) who trains hard and did not hesitate to show up for training on his very own birthday. His best present so far: Next grading in Jiu-Jitsu. Now he is a 5th Kyu/yellow belt.

Preparation for my 3rd Dan Jiu-Jitsu grading

This year in November I will join the grading to achieve my next black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Until then it requires a lot of preparation and hard training. Part of the syllabus for the 3rd Dan is the Goshin-Jitsu-No-Kata. A traditional japanese performance of self defence skills.

To do further studies on this subject I travelled last week to Bremen/Germany and attended a special seminar for this Kata. The seminar was held by the Bremen Goshin Jitsu organisation and the head teacher there was Grandmaster Frank Burdorf, who once learned his first steps into Jiu-Jitsu from me at my old Bremen club DSD Bremen.

One who stops learning, is nearly dead!

Please find some photo impressions of the workshop, which was very good, technically and most friendly people there.

Bridport martial artists train the defence against 10 most common attacks

At our local martial arts school Ichinen Bridport, we take the training of self defence very serious. Our aim is to gain perfection in the art of self defence by using the Jiu-Jitsu skills.

The Jiu-Jitsu techniques supply you with a wide range of reaction to the 10 most common attacks. It includes striking and punching, throws and joint manipulations, as well as "dirty tricks" and anti bullying strategies.

The 10 most common attacks are in detail:

1. One person pushes, hands to chest, which is followed by the pusher striking first, to the head.
2. A swinging punch to the head.
3. A front clothing grab, one handed, followed by punch to the head.
4. A front clothing grab, two hands, followed by a head butt.
5. A front clothing grab, two hands, followed by a knee to the groin.
6. A bottle, glass, or ashtray to the head.
7. A lashing kick to the groin or lower legs.
8. A broken bottle or glass jabbed to face.
9. A slash with knife, most commonly a 3 to 4" lock blade knife or kitchen utility knife.
10. A grappling style head lock.

This is according to information from a UK government web page and the content is nowadays not public available anymore. The reason is unknown.

By the way, as my roots are in Germany, I can inform you that over there you find very much the same set up. That doesn't surprise me, as we have all two hands and two legs to perform.

If you want to protect yourself against these common attacks, come and join us at the school. Training for the Jiu-Jitsu is twice a week for adults and once a week for children.

Personal growth with martial art training

Personal growth with martial art training

How many dream of it, to become a black belt in a martial art and so little gain it. Laurence Norman (25) from Axminster in Devon is on his way to make that dream come real. Yesterday he did a huge step towards this goal and successfully completed his next Jiu-Jitsu grading.

Laurence is a member of the Bridport martial art school Ichinen Bridport and takes extra lessons with Grandmaster Horst Lindenau (63) 6th Dan. He was tested for nearly an hour and finally certified with the 3rd Kyu Jiu-Jitsu (IMASA).

The 3rd Kyu is the green belt in traditional Jiu-Jitsu and can be called “half the Master”. It requires a fierce training regime and for the grading one has to proof self defence skills against one and two attackers, a randori fight against a higher grade, a theory test and the demonstration of 15 falls and rolls + show of following techniques:

2 Feet throws + follow up technique
Hip throw + follow up technique
Shoulder throw + follow up technique
1 self falling technique
4 defenses against strangle hold
4 strangling holds
3 hold down + 2 liberations
3 transport grips
3 wrist locks
Throat nerve press, control attacker
3 arm locks
3 defense against bear hugs
3 Kicks
5 defenses against various weapons/objects
3 show use of unnatural weapons

Jiu-Jitsu trained in this traditional way is not a sport or competition martial art sport. It includes the whole range of skills a martial artist can get. Including punching + kicking, ground work and rolls and falls, a wide range of weapon skills and last but not least a training for mind, body and soul.

If you like what Laurence Norman is doing come and join us at Ichinen Bridport martial arts school. For 2018 you can join as well for private lessons. Places are limited; you can choose time and place and which style suits you.

The most common street attacks

Here at Ichinen Bridport we train the martial arts with a strong focus on self defence. Although our little town on the south west coast of England can still be rated as fairly safe, we do have crime and of cause violence on the streets. But nevertheless, we are not training to be confronted here only, but for a wider range.

About three years ago I could google the topic of "most common attacks" and found results on the gov.com homepages/home office as well as on relevant German police statistics. Shortly after I could copy these results, these statistics been gone. Guess somebody has an interest, not to inform the wider public about this subject.

What you find today, is the list of the most common 10 attacks, which were posted here on the blog about 3 years ago. Makes me smile, since then all what you find online seems to copy this. I know it, as I have made some alterations from the original and all what I find online shows the same :)

In our local Bridport martial arts school we offer traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and the defence against these most common attacks are in each grading syllabus from 4th Kyu upwards.

Here you find the 10 most common street attacks according to law enforcement / UK from 2014.

1. One person pushes, hands to chest, which is normally followed by the pusher striking first, to the head.

(10 most common attack according to Law Enforcement)

And of cause we train our self defence armed and unarmed. This sis a small collection of weapons we use for training.

Our training is open for everyone. Please come along, if you are a beginner or an advanced martial artist.

We train on real martial arts mats

Ichinen Bridport martial arts school in Bridport / South West Dorset, uses thick rubber mats for the self defence classes. As the training requires a lot of ground work, either for the rolls and falls, the warm up procedure or grappling. These thick mats make sure, that whatever you do keeps you secure and comfortable to learn these new skills.

Without these mats it would be impossible to learn the special Jiu-Jitsu throws and more than half of the training time during the children lessons, the kids are working on the ground. Comfortable supported by our mats. And keep on mind: martial arts training on hard floor can damage your ankles on a long run.

Even the radical self defence of Anti Terror Combat requires these mats. Although the advanced students and the masters conduct many of their skill on hard floor, the beginner needs the support of some mats and many techniques are impossible to teach without so.
